Freshly back from the four month checkup
And Amira is still doing awesome! She currently weighs 13lbs 7oz, and she’s 24.5″ tall – that’s just over two feet of delicious Punkin goodness! Those stats put her in the 60th percentile for height, and the 50th percentile for weight. That’s definitely a drop in percentile from her first two visits, but there’s no reason to think that’s anything but normal. She gets to eat as often as she likes, and she always seems to be completely full at the end with no desire to eat more. She’s stayed pretty lean, tho, and she’s super active – strong kicks and stomach curls and lots of energy when awake (not too much, tho – she’s pretty chill and not hyper).
She’s also a tough little tyker with her shots. She had four of them today – diptheria/tetanus, ear infection, and two others. They put two shots in each little chubby thigh. She didn’t really even cry until the 3rd shot, and even after the last one it only took about 30 sec for her to calm down and be OK. She was the same way when she was first born. Instead of having to try and calm her down, the doctor that was cleaning her up and checking things kept having to flick her feet and poke her and try and rile her up to get her to cry, I guess to exercise her lungs and get some good deep breaths in. She would just cry a little bit and then calm down again. If that’s a trend, I think she’ll be able to manage pain well.
As always, the shots brought up visions of something going wrong – severe allergic reaction, autism, body damage, and all that other stuff that anti-innoculation literature warns about. We’ve made the choice at this point to innoculate, and I just pray that she’ll be in the normal boring statistic crowd – the huge percentage that never has a problem. The thought of her being damaged by it is so hard to take that I just don’t even give it the time of day. And at this point we’d rather that she had as much protection against the nasties as she can.
